We know that moving out can be stressful and the last thing you want is to have to deal with deposit deductions as well. To make it a bit easier please read and complete this checklist before you leave.
Things to do when moving out in order to avoid deposit deductions
Kitchen
- Ensure the cooker, including the oven, is clean and has all its attachments.
- Ensure the fridge/freezer is empty of all food, the freezer has been defrosted, all shelves are clean and it has been switched off with the door left open.
- Clean all surfaces and the floor in the kitchen and empty the bins.
- Empty and Wipe clean all the cupboards/ drawers.
Lounge, passageways and external
- Vacuum all communal areas.
- Remove all rubbish.
- Ensure no rubbish is left un-bagged in the yard/garden.
Bedrooms
- Vacuum rooms (including under the bed and behind the wardrobe).
- Remove personal possessions.
- Remove posters and blue tack or sellotape.
- Put back furniture that was in the room at the beginning of the tenancy.
- Remove rubbish.
- Hang curtains back properly on their hooks.
- Wipe down paint-work and windowsills.
Bathroom
- Clean the toilet, sink and bath.
- Clean all other surfaces, including the floor.
- Remove all toiletries and empty all bins
Other things to remember!
- Return the keys on time, the day you move out, any late returns may result in a charge for changing the locks.
- Any damages or cleaning needed will result in deductions from your deposit.
